Hebrews 2:14-18 NIV

14 Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil— 15 and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. 16 For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. 17 For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. 18 Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

1. Suffer: To experience ill treatment, roughness, violence, outrage, to endure suffering, and to undergo evils that finally lead to the question “What is happening to Me?”

2. Tempted is the same word as tested: The testing of the believers loyalty, strength, opinions, disposition, conditional, faith, patience,or character. “Which was one is going and what one is made of.”

For too long our view of church has been wrong. It’s not for the people who have it all together but for the sick. Luke 5:31 NKJV: “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.”

Suffering had a specific purpose in Christ’s life and contrary to popular belief it has a purpose in our life.

Christ is the High Priest: Hebrews 4:15-16 NKJV15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Us: Romans 8:16-20 NKJV: Heir means to be a joint participant in His ministry that His glory be revealed to us and through us.

16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. 18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
