Genesis 27:22: “You sound like Jacob, but you’re dressed like Esau.”
Compromise of Identity
1. Religion Says… “Become Someone Else”
The Church clothes, …Become Grave Clothes
The blessing wasn’t in the costume. The blessing was in God’s purpose.
2. The Father Was Confused By The Outfit
Isaac became confused because the outside didn’t match the inside.
Many churches are full of people who sound spiritual …but are hiding behind costumes.
Matthew 23:27–28 ESV : “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which outwardly appear beautiful, but within are full of dead people’s bones and all uncleanness. So you also outwardly appear righteous to others, but within you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness. God is looking for authenticity. The greatest revival begins …when people stop pretending.
3. Whatever You Use To Deceive Others … Will Eventually Deceive You
Genesis 37:26-27 ESV: Then Judah said to his brothers, “What profit is it if we kill our brother and conceal his blood? Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hand be upon him, for he is our brother, our own flesh.” And his brothers listened to him.
No Pit… That Praise can’t get you out of.
Compromise clings to what is familiar
You cannot build your life on false identity.
4. God Had To Change Jacob’s Identity
The blessing came through surrender, …not disguise.
5. Father’s Day Challenge To Men
Your family doesn’t need another Esau.
They need the man …God called YOU to be.
They know when your voice says one thing …and your life says another.
“The voice sounds Christian, but the life looks worldly.”
“The voice sounds holy, but the hands tell another story.”
“The voice sounds right, but the heart is somewhere else.”
God is looking for men whose voice and hands agree.
Men whose private life matches their public testimony.
Religion paints the outside. …The Holy Ghost changes the inside.
Religion gives costumes. …The Holy Ghost gives identity.
Religion teaches imitation. …The Holy Ghost produces transformation.
God is looking for Jacobs who will come honestly before Him …and let Him turn them into Israels.
